  • WHEN TO GET A DENTAL CROWN?

    Dental crowns are also recommended when:● A large filling leaves your tooth susceptible to damage.● You get a root canal that weakens the inner tooth structure.● You have a tooth with extremely worn biting surfaces.
    You might also need to get crowns to help hold a dental bridge in the right position or after replacing missing teeth with dental implants.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN GETTING DENTAL CROWNS

    If you need a dental crown, our Sioux Falls dentists will have you come in for two visits. At the first visit, we will perform a full exam, take x-rays, and prepare the tooth. Depending on the condition of the root, we may either need to do a root canal or simply reshape the sides to fit the crown.
    Then, we will take an impression of the prepared tooth, so we can have the dental crown made at the lab. In the meantime, you will have a temporary crown placed over the tooth to protect its sensitive surfaces. Be careful while eating, flossing, and brushing, so you do not damage the temporary cover.
    At the next visit, your dentist will remove the temporary dental crown and permanently cement the new one over your tooth. Once the numbness wears off, you can eat and drink normally without worrying about damaging the crown.
